Green Park is a pleasant patch of green with some large green trees on Darlinghurst Road in Darlinghurst and close to the old jail over the road. Alexander Green arrived at the nearby goal in 1824 and became the assistant hangman in 1828. Green was moved from the jail in 1841 and lived in a white-washed hut in what was known as Greens Park.

Park Lepelenburg is a wonderful park near the historical city centre of Utrecht. It is part of the larger Zocherpark, and is a popular place for picnics, exercising and enjoying the weather. On hot days, you can find people of all ages having picnics and barbecues to enjoy the beautiful park.

The street adjacent to this part of the park bears the same name. Originally Lepelenburg was a house that was located here. In addition, an earthen stronghold was built in the 16th century that served in the urban defenses of Utrecht, but around 1860 it was transformed into part of the current singelplantsoen.

As I've discovered, a backyard in Inner City Utrecht is mighty hard to come by. Tom and I live on the Annastraat, in the heart of town and there isn't a spot of real grass to be seen (the fake grass on the deck definitely doesn't count!). On those occasional hot summer days, our favourite spot is Park Lepelenburg.
