Tips for Visiting Monte Brè. Getting There: To get to Monte Brè from Lugano, I took bus NFB 2 from Lugano, Bellavista (direction Castagnola, Capolinea) and got off at Cassarate, Monte Brè. It was a 16 minute ride and buses depart every 30 minutes. From the Cassarate, Monte Brè bus stop, it was a short walk to the Monte Brè funicular.

Living in Lugano, I often head to Monte Bré, both for work and for leisure. We especially enjoy watching sunsets at the side of the mountain overlooking the lake, or just climbing to the top and then down again. From there, for those who like to hike, you can reach Monte Boglia, which is located behind the city at about 1.5h walk (steep).

Oct 2020. This was our second mountain in the Lugano region which we hiked. The hiking starts at the base of the mountain. The hike was though the forest with a lake view all the time. There were two passage along the hiking path where the trees were broken blocking the path but you can navigate with ease if you are sporty.

If you love funiculars then you'll probably enjoy the experience but the price of CHF27 return is really not worth it. You can get the number 12 bus from Lugano Centro to the village of Brè for CHF2.30. You can walk up from the village to the summit of Monte Brè.

This trail starts in Lugano at the Campo Marzio car park and then crosses the city via the lakefront of Lake Lugano. It passes San Michele Park, where the Chapel of San Michele is also located.
