Cooper's Country Store has in effect been around since 1937, making it one of the oldest general stores in the state. It first opened back in 1937 under the name of Burrow's Service Station. Owner Theron Burrows eventually sold the business to his son-in-law, George Cooper in 1974. Cooper changed the name to Cooper's — and the rest is history.

But in 1937, D.C. built Highway 521, connecting Manning, in the west, to the lowcountry colonial town of Georgetown. That same year, along the new highway, tobacco and cotton farmer Theron Burrows opened.
